Virginia State Capitol

This darling family booked a session this time around when I announced my fall trip to Virginia.  If you remember in the spring I had the opportunity to photograph the band called the “Sock Monkeys”.  If you missed it you can check it out HERE.  This is the lead singer of the band and his cute family.  I already heard that they were a pretty incredible family…(word gets out yo) but I really knew it after photographing them.  Thanks Shirley for going through the stress of photo day.  You are awesome!  I hope it was all worth it!  ;)

Jeanette and I debated back and forth on this afternoon whether to risk the elements to photograph her family.  It had been rainy off and on.  Selfishly I wanted to go because I know the type of light that often comes after a storm, but I also know that it nearly kills a mother to get her kids ready for a photoshoot only to have it cancelled due to the elements.  Getting ready often involves bribing, begging the kids to wear a certain outfit, high levels of stress to make sure no one trips on the way out the door and injures their face and just sheer exhaustion.  Sometimes you have a really wise friend who trusts and lets things fall how they may.  I think she would be the one person to say that you just have to roll with life and usually the best things come when you just let go and enjoy the adventure of it all.  We were blessed with that beautiful light that comes after a storm.  I adore this family and am so thankful for them in my life.

Open the Floodgates

I hesitate to even do a post on these two until they are gone in the next few months.  It will open up the floodgates.  This is my sweet niece and she has the unfortunate dispostion, like many of us in our family, to love BIG.  It is a blessing and a curse all at the same time.  Her and her best friend in the whole world will be serving 2 year missions for the LDS church in the next few months.  That means they will have to say bye bye to each other and not talk except through letters for a really long time.  It is a sacrifice for something they love even more.  That is pretty amazing if you ask me.  I am so excited for them because I know what comes from this great experience but because I love her so much, I also ache for her sweet heart.  Thank you Zane for being who you are to my sweet niece!  You are both going to do amazing things!  So excited to hear where each of you will be going!

The Aspens were so beautiful on this day.  They remind me of my mom.  It is her favorite tree and also one of mine.  I ended up talking my husband into planting three of them in our back yard fully knowing that they create hard knots in your lawn and have babies like crazy.  I have not regretted it one bit.  This family was the perfect subject to put in front of all of the gloriousness.

This is my cute niece and her friend.  I don’t know her friend very well but one thing I do know is that she is lucky to have my niece as her friend.  She has a heart of gold and is always caring for everyone around her.  She lights up a room wherever she is.  Love you Kenna bug!  You both are beautiful girls that were a blast to photograph.  Thanks for the fun afternoon!
